Our Hermann Oak® Veg-Tan Sides are the choice for full-length projects like belts, straps, harness work, and larger patterns. They’re also a great choice if you're using a specific weight often. They’re easy to cut, carve, and dye, perfect for everything from small goods to full-sized projects. Natural Veg-Tan will develop a rich patina over time and also can be dyed and oiled.
Hermann Oak veg-tan are suspended in vats and soaked for much longer than most leathers. Hermann Oak takes 6-8 weeks, whereas commercial tanneries typically tan veg-tan hides in 10-14 days. The result is a firmer, denser leather that tools, wet forms, and stamps beautifully, as well has a slightly darker natural tone.
