Our Hermann Oak® Old World Harness Leather is a traditional favourite. Heavily stuffed with waxes and tallows, this dense leather has a deep color, a rich pull-up, and a weighty feel that holds up under pressure. It’s the choice for harness makers, working tack, reins, and anyone needing a strap that won’t quit. The smooth finish and heavy body give it structure, while the waxed surface edges beautifully and resists the elements.
Hermann Oak veg-tan sides are suspended in vats and soaked for much longer than most leathers. Hermann Oak takes 6-8 weeks, whereas commercial tanneries typically tan veg-tan hides in 10-14 days. The result is a firmer, denser leather that tools, wet forms, and stamps beautifully, as well has a slightly darker natural tone.
