Our Hermann Oak® English Bridle sides are a solid pick when you want to skip the dyeing and get straight to work. These pre-dyed, veg-tanned hides come in five rich colors: Black, Havana Brown, Chestnut, British Brown, and London Tan.
This leather has a pasted/moss smooth flesh side, perfect for cutting clean straps with no extra prep. Ideal for belts, dog collars, tack, handles, and more. This leather edges/burnishes well to a smooth finish with no coating required.
Hermann Oak veg-tan sides are suspended in vats and soaked for much longer than most leathers. Hermann Oak takes 6-8 weeks, whereas commercial tanneries typically tan veg-tan hides in 10-14 days. The result is a firmer, denser leather that tools, wet forms, and stamps beautifully, as well has a slightly darker natural tone.
Leather Grades — General Guide
- Standard: Cleaner working area with fewer cosmetic marks; best for larger, visible cuts. Natural blemishes may still occur.
- Utility: Expect more natural range marks (scars, brands, scratches). Great for smaller projects or areas where appearance is less critical.
Note: Grades are subject to availability. All sides are of the same quality tannage, and vary in selection.
