Cowhide rawhide, also known as bovine rawhide, is the most common type due to its size, strength, and durability. These are unbleached cow sides (half hides) averaging 15–18 sq.ft. and about 3–5 oz in weight. Thicker and firmer than deer or elk, cow rawhide is ideal for larger projects like drum covers, snowshoes, shields, rawhide braiding, and traditional repair work. Since it’s untreated, it retains its natural color and strength. Each hide is unique, with natural scars and irregular edges that add to its character.
Rawhide is untreated and hasn’t gone through tanning. Instead, it’s cleaned, de-haired, stretched, and dried, making it natural, stiff, and tough. It is then meant to be soaked and stretched over drum frames or other structures.
Please Note: This product is not recommended for pet chews.
